Did you know you can just download iso images from SUN and mount them over a loopback device? I usually don’t need to do this because someone has the CD images. But today I needed the new Solaris 9 09/05 HW release for the V445 I am working on. I mounted up the iso:
# lofiadm -a /jumpstart/sol-9-905hw-ga-sparc-v1.iso
# mount -F hsfs /dev/lofi/1 /mnt
I run the jumpstart setup script out of Tools and get this:
# ./setup_install_server /jumpstart/OS/t
ERROR: Install boot image /mnt/Solaris_9/Tools/Boot does not exist
Check that boot image exists, or use [-t] to
specify a valid boot image elsewhere.
It turns out that the iso has two slices in it. There is a nice guide here, on how to do it.

Since you sent me a trackback, I was wondering if you might be so kind as to include a link to my story in your post. I don’t mind accepting trackbacks, but I usually request a link in exchange. Thanks – Cliff

No problem cliff, I wrote the story before I came across your site. I figured it might be beneficial for users looking to make a jumpstart server from Solaris OS ISOs.

I’m having trouble jumpstarting the v445 with solaris9 HW. When the v445 is creating the software mirrors it seems to hang. I’m very sure that the profile that I’m using for the disk layout works, I used it on hundreds of v240’s and v440’s. A profile without mirroring works great… Since you are farmiliar with this on a v445, any chance you can help me out?

It might be a problem with the new release. It is hard to say. Have you searched Sunsolve? I never mirrored my drives with jumpstart. I use this,
